Express Yourself by Charles Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band (1970)

Start with the title track which is fourth on the album. From the get-go this song makes you move. It’s one of the most licensed songs of the last 40 years, but Charles Wright had numerous people tell him was no good when he was trying to record it. In fact, he had to sneak a bass player, drummer, and engineer into the studio one Sunday and cut it in secret. I challenge you not to dance or keep your feet from finding rhythm when this song plays.
If that isn’t believing in yourself and your art, I don’t know what is. At Cut Above we salute those who are a cut above the rest which includes those who manifest their vision into reality. Plus, the title is totally a value of ours.
